ANALYSIS OF DUDYNCE HOUSE NUMBERS vs COUPLES OCCUPYING THE HOUSE. DURING THE PERIOD 1839- 1871

The Greek Catholic birth records (Parish of Pielneia) for the village of Dudynce state the names of parents or (parent) and their corresponding house number. One can get an idea of family relationships by grouping couples, surnames and birth dates of offspring according to house number. For a discussion of house numbers, click here HalGal: House Numbers. Although house numbers can change for various reasons (political, administrative), we are assuming that during this 32-year period they were unchanged.

Dates of recorded births may give an idea of simultaneous occupation of the house. It was quite common for several families to live together in one house in those days. Please view the accuracy of the spelling of surnames with suspicion because the handwriting was very difficult to decipher. The language of church records was Latin and so the names are written in Latin cases (e.g. Basilius instead of Basil). Rusyn or Polish spellings may also be somewhat different. For instance, the surname Maksymyk was also spelled at times as Maxymyk in the records. The “l~ vs the “t” was also difficult to determine from the handwriting. Diacritical marks have not been copied due to limitations of my computer. I have recorded surnames for women if the priest recorded them. Some house numbers below have no residents so they may have been occupied by people of other religions or may have been vacant or non-existent. The 1785 Austrian Cadastral shows the village contained 191 Greek Catholics, 20 Roman Catholics and 5 Jews. Author, Gloria Dran
